Abbie's obituary says she was the last surviving member of a pioneer family in Champaign, IL.
Abbie Elizabeth Gunning was the daughter of Denis and Anne O'Rielly Gunning of Tolono, 
leading pioneer residents and extensive landowners in Champaign and surrounding counties.
She and Francis Solon were married on 28 Jan 1903, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 
Tolono, IL.  She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church from its beginning in 1912.
Throughout her life, she traveled extensively, spending many winters in Palm Beach, Florida. 

The seven heirs of John B. Solon were:

  1. Mrs. Donald Fleischli of LaJolla, CA (Mary Ellen)
  2. Mrs. John Zahner of Princeton, NJ (Ann Louise)
  3. Mrs. Nicholas Frost of University City, MO (Frances)
  4. Mrs. Frederick Wendland of NJ (Virginia)
  5. Abbie Ellen Morris of New York City
  6. Mary Frances Morris of South Hadley, Mass. later listed as Mary Frances Zech of Monticello, Piatt County, IL
  7. James M. Morris of Providence, RI later listed being of Casanova, VA
Their mothers, daughters of Francis and Abbie Solon, were listed in 1972 as:
Mrs. Charles Drenckhahn of 401 W. University, Champaign, IL (Anna E.)

  • Urbana attorney Richard Thies represents three of the seven heirs to the estate - Abbie, James and Mary Morris, nieces and a nephew of Mr. Solon's.
  • Attorney Richard Thies, who represents a group of heirs of John Solon who own the Solon house
  • Attorney Lott Thomas, who represents the other four heirs, declined comment, saying only that his clients also intend to have repairs made.
  • Virginia Wedland and Mary Frances Morris, co-administrators of the Solon estate.
  • The Avenue Building is part of the large John Solon estate willed to Mr. Solon's nieces and nephews after his death in 1995. It is being managed by a niece, Frances Morris of Monticello.
