Family being researched by Marianne Fisher:My solan ancestor is my grandmother, Anne Solan, daughter of Martin Solan (1826-1888) and Mary Harrison (1824-1912. She was born in Cartron, Claremorris on 28 September 1864, bapt. on 9 Oct 1894 with sponsors Martin Harrison and Catherine Harrison according to the so. mayo family history center in Ballinrobe, Mayo, Ireland. Martin Solan and Mary Harrison were married in Mayo Abbey R. C. parish on 7 April 1859 with Richard Mullany and Mary Kennedy witnesses. Other children of this marriage include: Mary Solan 1861 (sp Patrick Solan and Anne Stanton) , Bridget Solan, 1862 (sp Patrick Solan and Mary Rochford), Catherine Solan, 1866 (sp. John McDonnell and Mary Walsh) and Patrick Solan 1868 (sp. Darby Naughton and Bridget Bourke). In Griffith's Mary Solan, possibly mother of Martin, was listed in Cartron, Claremorris, on plot 2b and on plot 2a was listed Martin Mullany.Another family of Solan's related to us include, Mary Margaret Solan born 28 July 1886 in Cloonboy, Claremorris to Martin Solan (1850) and Bridget Cleary(1859). They were married 3 Sept 1885 in Cloonboy, R.C. church, witnesses were Patt Solan and Mary Mulkeen. Bridget died 1887. Martin married secondly to Mary Anne Reilly 4 May 1890 in Balla R.C. church. There were three children of this marriage: Bridget, 1894 (sponsors James Solan & Margaret Larkin), Anne 1896 (sp. patrick Solan & Mary Solan), and John Patrick 1900 (sp James Forde and Catherine Larkin). There was another sister that I met many years ago named Agnes Solan. Perhaps she used her second name and may be either Bridget or Anne listed above. Many of these Solan family members moved to Massachusetts in the late 1880's to early 1900's. This is the story that I know at this time. Hopefully I will find out more information.
