Motivate (Five Minute Friday)

Sharing is caring!

This time of year seems to motivate everyone to think about their goals for the new year and what they would like to accomplish. I too struggled with what goals to choose and what word I would pick to motivate me throughout the year as the word FEARLESS did in 2017. I chose the word CONFIDENCE to be my 2018 word of the year. It was very hard to choose this year. You see, last year was the first time I had done this word of the year thing and though I went into it half-hearted last year I tried my best to think about being fearless whenever I found myself with a tough decision to make. I think I allowed the word FEARLESS to guide me very well last year and it only seemed fitting to follow my year of being FEARLESS up with a year of CONFIDENCE.

You may ask yourself why I need confidence, after all, I am writing and putting my work out here on the blog for the whole world to see. That only motivates me to try harder to do better. The idea that even one person might be motivated to try something they are uncertain they can do because I had the nerve to start a blog is part of what keeps me going. Hopefully, if you have been reading for long or have taken the time and interest to go back and read my posts from their very humble beginnings, you will see some measure of improvement in my writing ability. I don’t always see it myself because I lack confidence in myself.

If you want to motivate me to have confidence in my writing during 2018, please take a minute now to add your email address to the little box in the top right area of the blog so you can get a notice about each new post I write for the blog. I promise it won’t be very often, only once a week or maybe twice with these Five Minute Friday posts. Feel free to leave me comments and let me know what I am doing well or maybe what I need to get better at. Sometimes I feel as though I am writing to the wind and often wonder if anyone but my fellow FMF writers ever read my posts.

I missed writing them the last two weeks, but understand that many would not have taken the time to participate over the holidays. I just know it was hard for me to break that habit after doing it so consistently.

So today I write this with all the confidence I can muster in hopes that it will motivate you to sign up to be notified by email when I post and that you will continue to read my posts throughout the coming year. Knowing you are reading will give me confidence that my writing must be worthy of reading if you keep coming back each week to read and comment on my posts. I try to post every Thursday and then this quick little five-minute post every Friday. Sometimes I have to hold myself back so I don’t write and post all my ideas at once, other times I am scratching my head wondering what on earth I will write about this week. So I will just keep writing and hopefully improve as the year goes on. I set a lot of new goals and posted those for the whole world to see and hold me accountable. That worked pretty well last year so I thought I’d try to accomplish a few more things this year. You can expect quarterly goal updates, so come back to read those at least and nudge me if I seem to be falling behind in posting or achieving my goals. You motivate me to keep at it until my goals are achieved.

This post is part of the weekly Five Minute Friday link-up!
The prompt this week is: Motivate
The assignment: Write for five minutes on the word of the week. This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write.

I love the little journal picture you did, and I’ve saved it as I want to look at it in great depth some time. My word last year was Honour and this year it is Write. I’m writing down health things, Scripture and a moment from each day, along with writing a blog post fortnightly, and maybe a book later in the year? Coming over from FMF

That is the page in my bullet journal this year for my word of the year. The one last year for fearless was more decorative but had too many words to get too fancy this year. Feel free to browse the bullet journal entries, perhaps it will inspire you. I love to write out verses or quotes when I find one that has special meaning for me. Thanks for stopping by.

I love your word for the year and pray that this is a year when you grow in confidence in God and in what he is calling you to do.
If you regularly post on a Thursday there is another linkup you might like. It’s called Chasing Community and it’s at http://brendabradfordottinger.com/blog It’s another good way to connect with more people. Visiting from FMF #19.
